It was a stupid remark, made off the cuff. Now he is paying for it. Its not just that remark, its all the other gaffes he麓s made.Does the ';lipstick on a pig'; remark demonstrate Mr. Obama's unfitness for the Presidency of the United States?
The remark has been widely used as an expression to show how each party uses semantics to spin an issue. Today tapes showed Dick Cheney making the remark and Sen McCain made the remark about Sen Clinton's health plan. The tape was played at least 50 times today on the news. Actually, it shows how little attention was paid to Obama's speech. He said the slogan of change adopted by McCain was not true. He was saying that McCain can call his platform anything he wants, but its still the same old thing. The Republicans that mis quoted this statement are the ones who called Gov Palin a pig. It wasn't in anyone else's mind. It show the desperation of the GOP. It also could be used to show how easily McCain forgets. It could be played as a sign of his age.
The spin will continue for a few more days, but spin can always come back at you. Today the spin seemed to be coming back at the GOP.
As for the morality issue, Obama and Biden both have demonstrated that when the made their wedding vows before God. They kept them. McCain had a sordid affair while still married to Carol. He dumped her after she was injured in an automobile accident. She had waited for him all the time he as a POW. I totally agree, we don't need another lying sleazebag in our White house. McCain has shown his lack of honor. As a Nam vet from 1967-69, I cannot support the man.
The McCain campaign's faux outrage, and really anyone else's outrage whether it be real or not, demonstrates that some people are bold faced-liars and some people just can't read.
This is the full quote by Obama:
';Let's just list this for a second. John McCain says he's about change, too. Except -- and so I guess his whole angle is, ';Watch out, George Bush, except for economic policy, health-care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy, and Karl Rove-style politics. We're really gonna shake things up in Washington.'; That's not change. That's just calling some -- the same thing, something different. But you know, you can -- you know, you can put lipstick on a pig; it's still a pig.';
HE DIDN'T MENTION PALIN AT ALL!!!
I agree that it was not a very polite or appropriate analogy that Senator Obama used to describe Sarah Palin, but I do not think that the comment can be interpreted as representation of his unfitness to be president. I live in Illinois, and can attest to reaping the benefits of his time in the senate. The issues are most important in an election, and you should vote for a presidential candidate based on where they stand on those issues. Plus, McCain called his wife a **** in public in front of a crowd of reporters, so if we cannot vote for a candidate that makes ';sleazy, thoughtless public remarks,'; then perhaps we will have no candidate to vote for.
Mccain article--google Mccain ****, and you'll find a plethora of articles
Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, ';You're getting a little thin up there.'; McCain's face reddened, and he responded, ';At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you ****.'; McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.
Absolutely not ! Did you even read/hear the comment? It's a common phrase meaning trying to dress up something to make it look better than it is. He wasn't referring to Palin, and if I were here I would be incredibly insulted by the people who jumped to that conclusion. DO they think she's a ';pig'; ? McCain and many others have used the phrase countless times. Jumping on that as a reason to not vote for Obama makes you look incredibly petty and foolish.
Some similar mistakes have demonstrated that Mr G.W. Bush may be unfit for the office. But no, particularly when one has to extend what he said to a previous joke by Ms Palin, it would be excessive political correctness to conclude that he is unfit to be president, any more than any man would be.
The Democrats lost their credibility with the average, everyday person long, long ago...and it's these people who make up the majority of the voters on election day. The most radical people, on both ends of the spectrum, might vote THIS election day, but who knows? Their track record at the polls isn't very good.
No. All he was saying was, no matter how you dress up something that's bad or wrong, it's still going to be bad %26amp; wrong. He wasn't directing it to any one person in particular. Only stupid people didn't get it.
The only real thing that makes Obama fit to be POTUS is the same reason his cousins Bush %26amp; Cheney are: BLOODLINES:

And McCain remarks about ';g蟽蟽ks'; and joking about bombing Iran I think demonstrate how unfit he is. I don't care if he was a POW, he's not an honorable man.
Your right. can you imagine Obama calling the Chancellor of Germany a pig. His inexperience and lack of restraint and judgment are really disturbing.
With comments such as he recently made, Obama has shown himself not to be fit for any public office in my opinion.
Don't be ridiculous, McCain's used it and Obama's used it, if you think it was directed at Palin then you're being ignorant like many others. I think you should get over it and look at the serious issues. Unless of course if this another attempt at jabbing Obama, you failed.
Actually, I really don't think Obama was referring to Palin with that remark, but his audience seemed to think so and he didn't do anything to correct himself. This is a guy that cannot speak without a teleprompter. He opens his mouth and inserts his foot when he has to wing it.
Obama's teleprompter wasn't working at the time and he was only stating what he really thinks. But then want about the other 2 statements he made about an old wrapper and such.
Obama is less than 2nd rate and a boom to anyone else running against him.
Yes, I would like my prez. to stay away from that type of tacky slang and have a healthy respect for proper English language.
This isn't the corner bar.
ROTFLMAO !!
McCain was a beaver banging whore master who cheated on his 1st wife. AND he choose a nephyte Bimbo with an unwed knocked up teenage girl, and you have the audacity to point fingers at others ??
LOL ok this is getting too funny. You cannot be that ignorant. Someone else said the same thing on another question.
I say learn the facts or don't post a question. You make yourself look like an idiot.
Not sure about unfitness for POTUS but in his part it makes him seem like an immature %26amp; classless ignoramous. He needs a teleprompter to keep him from spewing such vile blabber.
Umm your hero John McCain said ';lip stick on a pig'; statement way before Obama did...DO YOUR RESEARCH
now do you think McCain should be president?
Yes, I agree, McCain would never say anything like that.

Oh, wait...
If it does I guess it shows Mccains unfitness also since he said it 3 times before in referencing Hillary Clinton.

Right Wing Hypocrisy At Its Finest
Surely you jest.
Yeah, let the moose shooter grandma/ma who phonied up a pregnancy be the leader of the free world
McCain has said it four times about Clinton.
Its a very common phrase.
McCain used the same analogy. See video:

What now?
I've have heard Mc Same and Cheney use the same expression..
Why is just sleazy and thoughtless when Obama uses it?
yeah just like you just demonstrated that some americans are ignorant!
Totally agree!!!
Don't you just LOVE youtube?
